In the 1920s, Russian peasants from the countryside began migrating to Moscow in search of employment. Seeking diversion from their hard labor, they borrowed from earlier years the concept of pyatachok, the place where rural young people held Sunday dances, and transformed it into a common event in the capital's principal parks.
